I waned some advice on purchasing a Patio set. I know they are expensive and I wanted to get someth
I had a couple of questions.
1. I like the rod iron look. Is rod iron the most durable. It appears to be something that as long as you paint and keep clean it will last forever, very durable. Is this true.
2. What are the advantages/disadvantages of the different type of materials used in the Patio sets.
3. What about those patio sets you see in Home Depot, Wal-Mart.

I got mine at walmart really nice and cheap $80.00 Ive had it for 2 years..
I purchased one for $100 at Target last year. I love it and find it very comfortable. So far there isn't any chipping or fading, etc. and I leave it out all year long. Our temperatures range from the 20s to well into the hundreds.
I have a lot of patio furniture, wrought iron, all weather wicker, powder coated aluminum and wood. Of all of the materials, I am really impressed with the all weather wicker. It is easy to clean with a hose or a little dish detergent, doesn't fade, doesn't need to be painted and is very durable. I painted a lot of my wrought iron with Hammerite and now regret it. I find that it peels, wears off, rusts and flakes off over time. The wrought iron I painted with Rustoleum for metal did much better and won't need to be repainted because it bonds with the iron, prohibits rust from spreading and prevents it from occurring. I'm also not impressed with the aluminum powder coated furniture. The manufacturer says it won't rust, but it did at all of the joints that were welded. It fades and looks weathered. I will have to repaint it and treat the rust spots. It is very expensive furniture and not worth the price. I would not purchase wood for the outdoors ever again. I live in an area where temps can get well over 100 degrees, we have blazing sun and automatic sprinklers, none of which have been friendly to the wood.
Hence, I would choose the all weather wicker or wrought iron if I had any space in my outdoor entertaining area left. The only complaint I've ever heard about the wrought iron is that some of the chairs are a little heavy to move about. Wal-Mart does have an all weather wicker set for both dining and entertaining. The couch and chair set is comfortable, too.
